Literary Criticism Resources:
HRHS Library Catalog: The HRHS Library has an extensive collection of literary criticism. There are also books in the reference section that will help you in your research; these may not show up in a catalog search. The library has volumes on Short Stories, 19th- and 20th-Century Literary Criticism, American Writers, British Writers, Novels for Students and Literature and Its Times. Be sure to browse through the Reference Section located in the center of the library to familiarize yourself with these sources. The HRHS catalog is only accessible while at school.
Bloom's Literary Reference Online: Username and password are available from the librarians if needed. This resource is part of the Facts on File suite of databases. Searches can be done by using the author's name or the title of the work. There are also searches for literary topics and themes as well as strategies for writing good essays. Provided by HRHS, this database is accessible from both school and home computers.

The most useful resource in this suite of databases is Contemporary Literary Criticism Select. Contemporary Literary Criticism covers authors who are currently active or who died after December 31, 1959. This resource can be searched using the author's name or book title. you may log in at home using your public library card barcode number at http://mblc.state.ma.us/
Boston Public Library: Many resources are accessible from the Boston Public Library. Users must have an electronic library card number in order to access these sources. Once you have an eCard you can search the electronic resources by clicking on the literature link in the blue sidebar on the left of the page, selecting your area of interest will help you narrow your search. Searching can be done in a general topic area as well as specific resource title. Resources are searchable using title, author's name, keywords or text excerpts.
Local Public Libraries: Most of the local public libraries use the C/W Mars circulation system. Students are able to search for books within the system and order interlibrary loans if they have a barcoded public library card. If you do not have a barcoded library card we can help you apply for one or order the books for you. Forbes Library in Northampton has an extensive Literary Criticism collection.
Internet Public Library: The Internet Public Library has an extensive site for literary criticism. You can browse by author or title of work. There are many links given and information on conducting literary research. The sources listed are chosen for their usefulness.
